Powerful but portable
This high-performance crop-sensor prime delivers outstanding image quality and an ultra-wide F1.4 aperture in a very portable body. Weighing just 285g, it’s one of the lightest F1.4 lenses on the market for mirrorless cameras, so is ideal for photographers who need both performance and portability from their kit. The 30mm F1.4 is ideal for street photography, portraits, weddings, travel and day-to-day shooting, and thanks to its fast AF is also perfect for video.
The wide F1.4 aperture delivers a shallow depth-of-field for blurry backgrounds, and it also makes it easier to achieve blur-free shots when working hand-held in low light. The lens is available in a range of mirrorless mounts including, Sony E-mount, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds and Nikon Z Mount. When used on an APS-C sensor camera, the lens offers an equivalent focal length of 45mm, and when used on Micro Four Thirds, it’s 60mm. The SIGMA 30mm F1.4 is part of a series of portable crop-sensor primes with an F1.4 maximum aperture.
Features and build
As with the other optics in Sigma’s F1.4 DC DN range, the 30mm F1.4 is constructed with a strong and light polymer that ensures a rugged build while keeping the lens portable. A large, rubberised focus ring makes manual focusing highly intuitive to use, and a petal-type lens hood helps control flare in bright sunlight. The durable brass mount is surrounded by a rubber seal to help keep out dust and moisture.
The lens benefits from inner focusing technology, with a stepping motor that delivers smooth, fast and accurate AF for both stills and video. The lens has been designed with lighter lens elements in the focus lens group, which ensures responsive autofocus that is fully compatible with all the latest AF camera technology.
High-performance optics
The 30mm F1.4 has an advanced optical design made up of 9 elements in 7 groups, including 2 aspherical elements, 2 SLD elements and 3 FLD elements. These ensure razor-sharp results and help to eliminate common optical issues such as chromatic aberration, flare and vignetting. The lens also utilises in-camera digital correction to fine-tune the final result.
Chromatic aberration is very well-controlled around areas of high contrast, and vignetting is minimal even wide-open. The lens has advanced optical coatings which reduce flare and ghosting when working in bright direct sunlight.
Perfect for street photography
The 30mm F1.4 DC DN has a full-frame-equivalent focal length of 48mm, which is absolutely ideal for street and travel photography. Add to this its compact and lightweight design that makes it easy to carry around, and an F1.4 aperture for working in low light without a tripod, and this is one of the most versatile standard primes on the market.
A fast aperture also delivers a shallow depth-of-field for blurry backgrounds, making it easy to isolate a subject and create more impactful images. The bokeh is smooth and attractive, so doesn’t distract from the in-focus subject.
Ultra-portable design
Almost identical in size and weight to the 18-50mm F2.8 DG DN | C, which is Sigma’s standard zoom for crop sensor mirrorless cameras, the 30mm F1.4 is also a versatile and portable lens ideal for day-to-day shooting. While the 30mm doesn’t have the flexibility of a zoom, it does have a faster aperture of F1.4, which lets in four times as much light and creates a shallower depth-of-field.
